Laboratory of Laser Spectroscopy of Nanosystems in Liquid Media

Dmitriy Karpov

Dmitry Karpov was born in Moscow, Russia. In 2003, after graduation from high school with math-focused courses which were run by M.V.Lomonosov Moscow State University, Chernogolovka division, he became a student of the Physics Department of M.V.Lomonosov Moscow State University in Moscow.

Dmitry Karpov studied mechanisms of formation of the valence band in the water Raman Scattering (RS) spectrum. In particular, he focused on the effect of the ion hydration type change due to the temperature variation on the valence band shape in the water RSS and the study of the Fermi resonance role in the formation of the valence band in the water RS by using the RS temperature dependence. The obtained experimental data were analyzed by using artificial neuron networks and genetic algorithms. As a result, a significant role of Fermi resonance in the formation of the valence band of water RS was shown.

The main objectives of the D. M. Karpov's diploma project were the study of the weak resonance interactions of water molecules in the Raman spectrum and interactions between polyfunctional surface groups of nano-diamonds and water molecules by using RS spectra. He is also highly involved in public life and youth political education. In 2005-2006 he interned in the Russian Federation State Committee (Duma) for Education and Science.
